Home of the 63rd annual Big Rock winners

Hello – I’m captain Jay Watson - welcome to WideSpread Sportfishing.  We fish from the Fishing Center at Oregon Inlet in the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina.   I am grateful to have the opportunity to fish with the best fleet in one of the top fisheries in North America.  Our boat is a 52’ custom Carolina (17’ Beam) that was built in 2004 and was restored to like new condition in 2021.  The restoration included a new Caterpillar C-18 engine.  The boat includes all of the licenses, standard safety equipment, electronics, and all of the amenities that you would expect on a 52’ sportfish (air conditioning/heat, bathroom/shower, microwave).  Our extensive collection of tackle includes Penn reels from spinning rods to 130’s.  We have the tackle onboard to target anything that swims.  In addition to the restoration, we also renamed the boat after one of our favorite bands (you figure it out), and we love to pull a wide spread when targeting the plentiful Epipelagics not far offshore.

I was born in North Carolina and have lived here all my life.  I have fished full time in the Outer Banks as a captain for fifteen years.  I previously captained the WideSpread for two years, and I know this boat raises fish, including success in big game tournaments.   I am thrilled with all of the upgrades we introduced during the restoration this year, but I am even more thrilled that I am fishing with my long-time friend and mate Justin Walters who I have fished with for the past ten years.

If you come fishing on the Widespread, we can guarantee that your trip will be fun, and we will do everything in our power to make it bountiful.  If we are booked on your chosen fishing day, we suggest that you try one of the other fabulous boats in the Oregon Inlet fleet.  We hope to see you aboard the WideSpread soon!
